A study done at the Harbin Medical University in China has shown that those who chew their food more end up taking in a lot fewer calories. ?The study involved 30 young men half obese and half in fit shape, and analyzed whether the overweight subjects chewed their food differently that the fit persons. ?All of the subjects were told to fast for 12 hours before the experiment and then ate identical portions of food consisting of Chinese breakfast food.? Each was told that they could eat more if they wanted to. ?According to researchers those who were overweight chewed their food less and ate their food faster than the fit persons. In the second study they were fed the same amount of the same food and told to chew it either 15 to 40 times per bite. ?Both test groups ingested 12 percent less calories when they chewed their food 40 times compared to when they chewed their food only 15 times. ?They also found that those subjects that chewed their food 40 times also produced less of the hormone called gherlin, which stimulates ones hunger and also causes more of the appetite suppressing hormone called cholecystokinin. Although this may not sound like a lot one could lose up to 25 pounds per year by taking in less than 12 percent fewer calories.
If one is keen on trying this concept it is important to note that one should remove all distractions when practicing this technique.? One should not watch television, nor stare at a computer screen while chewing or even reading a book can cause one to lose focus. ?It is important to savor the flavor of the food and to concentrate on what is being eaten.
It is also important to note that it takes your body around 20 minutes to tell your brain that it is full, so the longer you can chew your food the more effective this technique can be for you.
By focusing your attention on the number of times you chew you are guaranteed to lose weight and stay fit.
