Question by vivayourvida: How hard is Anatomy & Physiology? As a high school course?
I?m a sophomore in high school but I?m taking A&P next year along with Physics. I?m not /that/ great at science, but I took Bio as a freshman (instead of Earth Science) and Chem now (instead of Bio). Then again, it?s always been my only non-honors class. I?m a strong, well-rounded student but I?m just a little worried about Anatomy since like I said earlier, I?m not AS GOOD at science as I am at say, English or History.
From what I?ve heard, Anatomy is a LOT of memorization but I think I should be okay with that since I?m pretty good at memorizing things. Also it sounds interesting, so that would keep me motivated to do well in the class, but I have friends who are in Bio Honors and have the teacher who is going to teach Anatomy next year, and they all say he?s evil. I?ve even heard from other teachers that he?s very meticulous. Apparently he said Anat is almost as hard as an AP class, but not quite?
What do you think? And also what?s a good Anatomy textbook to use as a resource? Maybe I?ll start looking through one this summer. Anatomy would be my second elective, making that 7 credits next year, so I would be taking two lab sciences next year, as well as French and Spanish 3, AP Lang & Comp, and AP US History. I could always drop A&P since I?m taking way more credits than people normally do, but I feel like if I could push through everything next year I would emerge a stronger student (and, it?d probably look good for colleges, too).

I take AP A&P this year, and I personally find it interesting. However, it is a lot of work and the tests are difficult (we?ve had to label complicated diagrams and things along that sense..)
But it will look good to colleges as opposed to taking an easy elective course to get an easy A, especially if you do well in that course.
It?s a lot of work, and I don?t personally suggest it if you?re not the slightest bit interested in A&P, otherwise you might lose interest/stop paying attention during the class (I know there?s a LOT of complicated lessons and different areas that we have learned already, and many lectures that if I wasn?t interested in Anatomy I probably would have clonked out on..) and if you fall behind and miss notes, it can be a killer.
But overall, the class has been well worth it from my own personal experience, and colleges willl like to see that you chose A&P over something easy so that?s always a plus.
