Automotive Advice - Auto Repair Questions and Answers: Honda ...

Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 554,000 sport utility vehicles in the United States to inspect for faulty wiring in headlights.

Honda said in a statement that the recall affects CR-V SUVs from model years 2002 to 2004 and Pilot SUVs from model year 2003. The Japanese automaker will inspect and replace parts of the headlight wiring system that could fail, causing the low-beam headlights not to work and increase the risk of crash.

No injuries or crashes have been reported relating to the issue, Honda said.

Letters will be mailed to affected owners in late April, but consumers can see if their vehicles require repairs by going to www.recalls.honda.com or calling 800-999-1009.

The Most Wonderful Thing About Data Recovery Software Mac ...

The computers that are used by people are something like a crutch today, but a good one that is needed. People can?t live without their computers as they help to organize lives. When a problem happens with erased data, it is best to have data recovery software Mac. data recovery software mac

This application can help to recover information that may be lost on the hard drive. Information can be located and then moved to a more secure or undamaged location. This is very valuable when dealing with very important information that must be used by a company or person.

When the system considers a file or folder or any type of information to be erased, it only does it to the index and not the hard drive itself. The location still has the information, but the computer waits to use the location when it is ready. This means that the information can be found and saved for the user.

A government type of hard drive erasing actually erases the information not only on the index, but also on the hard drive. The data will be wrote over and encoded so that the information in that location is null and void if a recovery operation tries to be employed. This is to ensure that the information will be permanently destroyed without recovery.

If a hard drive is damaged, these types of programs may be able to capture the information and then to place it on another hard drive. This can help a business that has sensitive files and folders that needs to be saved. In the end, this can save a system from total loss.

When a person has a computer that has a damaged hard drive, they may want to think about data recovery software Mac. This is a good application that can bring data back from the lost corners of the hard drive. It can recover information that is highly needed when it may have been erased or damaged.

Man City motivated to beat Sunderland

By STUART CONDIE

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 9:14 a.m. ET March 30, 2012

LONDON (AP) -Manchester City has plenty of additional motivation to beat Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.

Victory would put leader Manchester United under pressure, pay Sunderland back for what was only its second Premier League defeat of the season and give one player the pleasure of beating his hometown club.

Sunderland-born England winger Adam Johnson played the entire game at the Stadium of Light in January, so he was on the field to see Ji Dong-won score a last-minute winner in a match City had dominated.

"That defeat was hard to take because we played really well, dominated the match but the ball just wouldn't go in the net for us," Johnson said. "I don't think they had any shots of note during the game and then they nick it right at the death, so that's certainly in the back of our minds going into this game."

With defending champion United not in action until it plays Blackburn on Monday, City can draw level on points at the top of the table if it beats the Black Cats.

City slipped slightly further behind United last weekend with a 1-1 draw against Stoke but has won a Premier League-record 20 straight games at home and is a strong favorite to beat a side resurgent under manager Martin O'Neill.

"I'm sure they won't be looking forward to coming to our ground," said Johnson, who is close friends with Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole. "We've been fantastic on our own patch and we feel we can beat anyone, so we'll be looking to make it 21 Premier League wins in a row against them."

While Johnson is in contention to start, City striker Sergio Aguero is out with a foot injury. Manager Roberto Mancini would not say what the injury was and raised the prospect that it was self-inflicted or sustained in an accident by stating only that it was "stupid."

Aguero's absence could give Carlos Tevez the chance to start a match for the first time since Sept. 10. The Argentina striker has made three substitute appearances since returning from an unsanctioned six-month break.

United's game against Blackburn is the first of four in a row against teams in the bottom six of the Premier League and manager Alex Ferguson said it is crucial his team takes advantage to stay ahead of City until the teams meet on April 30.

"We have a small advantage: it's not a great advantage; it can be changed in one game," Ferguson said. "We just have to take each game as it comes along. It's the only thing we can do."

Chelsea is at Aston Villa in another match Saturday, when third-place Arsenal is at Queens Park Rangers.

Everton hosts West Bromwich Albion, Fulham hosts Norwich, Wigan hosts Stoke and Wolverhampton Wanderers hosts Bolton.

On Sunday, it's Tottenham vs. Swansea and Newcastle vs. Liverpool.

Study finds circle hooks lower catch rate for offshore anglers

Anglers are required to use circle hooks in some fishing tournaments because they are less likely to cause lethal injuries in billfish, such as marlin. However, research from North Carolina State University shows that broadening circle hook requirements could adversely impact charter and recreational fishing, since they make it more difficult to catch non-billfish.

"We wanted to know whether circle hooks are effective as conventional J hooks when angling for non-billfish such as yellowfin tuna in North Carolina waters," says Paul Rudershausen, a research assistant in NC State's biology department and lead author of a paper describing the research. The NC State team worked with charter boat captains and mates who were experienced with use of circle hooks to look at the efficacy of circle hooks versus J hooks when trolling offshore with rod and reel. The findings are relevant for similar fishing efforts in other waters where these same species occur.

A "circle hook" is defined as a circular hook in which the point of the hook is perpendicular to and aligned with the shank of the hook. This differs from a J hook, which is shaped like the letter J.

Studies have found that circle hooks are less likely to mortally wound billfish during recreational or charter fishing. As a result, the National Marine Fisheries Service instituted regulations requiring anglers in Atlantic billfish tournaments to use circle hooks when using natural baits. J hooks are still permitted if an angler is using purely artificial bait.

Anglers and fishing industry observers have speculated about the possibility that circle hook regulations may be expanded to fishing outside of billfish tournaments even when anglers are not fishing for billfish to protect billfish species that may be caught inadvertently.

This speculation led NC State researchers to determine whether circle hooks would be as effective as J hooks when fishing for non-billfish species. The answer is no.

The researchers looked at the relative effectiveness of circle and J hooks for three popular sporting fish: dolphinfish (often called mahi mahi in the Pacific), yellowfin tuna and wahoo. "Circle hooks were roughly 60 to 70 percent as effective at catching these three species as J hooks," Rudershausen says.

The researchers found that the fish would still strike at the bait, but that the hook was significantly less likely to set in the mouth of the fish. However, when the hook did set, anglers were just as likely to be able to get the fish to the boat.

"The charter ocean fishing industry is economically significant in North Carolina," Rudershausen says, "receiving approximately $65 million in for-hire fees in 2009. The concern is that circle hooks would drive down catch rates which could result in fewer clientele for North Carolina's offshore charter fishing industry."

The researchers hope to work with economists to better capture the potential economic impact of any expansion of circle hook regulations.

###

The paper, "A comparison between circle hook and J hook performance in the troll fisheries off North Carolina," was co-authored by Dr. Jeffrey Buckel, associate professor of biology at NC State; Greg Bolton, laboratory research specialist in NC State's Department of Food, Bioprocessing & Nutrition Sciences, Tyler Averett, a former technician at NC State; Randy Gregory of the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries; and Paul Conn of the National Marine Fisheries Service. The paper is available online from Fishery Bulletin. The cooperating charter boat captains were Dale Britt on the F/V Sensation and Pete Zook on the F/V Energizer. The research was supported by North Carolina's Fishery Resource Grant program which is administered by NC Sea Grant.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] If the fight against breast cancer were a criminal investigation, then the proteins survivin, HDAC6, CBP, and CRM1 would be among the shadier figures. In that vein, a study to be published in the March 30 Journal of Biological Chemistry is the police report that reveals a key moment for keeping cancer cells alive: survivin's jailbreak from the nucleus, aided and abetted by the other proteins. The research highlights that a protein's location in a cell affects its impact on disease, and offers clear new leads for the investigation.

All four proteins were already under suspicion. Researchers, for example, have already tried to assess what levels of HDAC6 in patients with estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer may mean for their prognosis. The results have been inconclusive. The new research suggests that measuring overall levels may not be enough, said the study's senior author Dr. Rachel Altura, associate professor of pediatrics in The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a pediatric oncologist at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

"We need to look not only at the levels, but also where is it in the cell," she said.

Altura's emphasis on location comes from what her research team found as they tracked and tweaked the comings and goings of survivin in cells. Inside the nucleus, survivin is no problem. Outside the nucleus, but within the cell, it can prevent normal cell death, allowing cancer cells to persist.

In previous work, Altura and her collaborators established that under normal circumstances, CBP chemically regulates survivin, a process called acetylation, and keeps it in the nucleus. The question in the new work was how survivin gets out.

In a series of experiments, what they observed was that in human and mouse breast cancer cells, HDAC6 gathers at the boundary between the nucleus and the rest of the cell, becomes activated by CBP, then binds survivin and undoes its acetylation. This deacetylation allows survivin to then be shuttled out of the nucleus by CRM1.

In the classic jailbreak, CBP is a corrupt guard who looks the other way as HDAC6, the shovel, is smuggled in. The final accomplice, CRM1, is the tunnel with a getaway car on the other end.

Working the new leads

Altura said the research suggests a clear strategy to keep survivin in the nucleus and two leads to pursue it, both of which she has already begun working on with collaborators in academia and in the pharmaceutical industry.

One idea is to inhibit HDAC6 in an attempt to prevent it from misregulating the acetylation of survivin. While general HDAC inhibitors are in clinical trials, Altura is optimistic that blocking just HDAC6, using specific inhibitors developed by a colleague in Japan, would have fewer complications.

"You always have to worry about all the things you don't know that you are targeting," she said. "If we can target HDAC6, we can maybe block survivin from coming out of the nucleus and maintain it in its good state."

The other strategy is to block CRM1, Altura said, an idea she is pursuing with a pharmaceutical company in breast cancer cells in the lab. She said preliminary experiments look promising in keeping survivin inside the nucleus and making cancer cells more susceptible to dying.

Property Equity Loans ? A Information to Clean the Way to Approval ...

The dwelling arguably presents the surest way to boost supplemental cash, with the availability of residential home equity financial loans permitting residence homeowners to tap into 100 % free equity. The idea may perhaps feel peculiar, granted that an current mortgage loan is a important unsecured debt. But this is not basically valid at all.

All people who owns their own home has a precious asset on their fingers discount home mortgages. A mortgage personal loan was needed to protected the home, but as time passes and payments are managed, the alot more the accessible equity grows. And financial loans accredited primarily based on residence equity indicates this price is transformed into difficult income.

For those people of us with mounting debts, or who have giant expenditures close to the corner, cashing in on the value of the place is a viable alternative. But it is vital that, when trying to find equity financial loans on the dwelling, all of the pitfalls and particulars are recognized. This brief lead to some of the predominant mortgage factors can enable your application to operate even more smoothly.

How It Performs

Number one of all, the way that household equity financial loans job is really hassle-free. A mortgage is secured in order to obtain the property and, month-by-thirty day period, this mortgage is paid out off. If the value of that financial loan is $250,000, with month to month repayments of understandably $1,four hundred over twenty five several years, the principal repaid per month will probably be $one,200. So, just after five ages, approximately $72,000 will have been repaid.

What that implies is that the equity of the residence has enhanced to $72,000, even though the sector worth of the house might also have elevated ? conceivably by $twenty five,000 ? in that time to add more to the value. In all then, a bank loan accredited based mostly on household equity could be as large as $100,000.

The mechanics of equity financial loans on the dwelling is such that, must $fifty,000 be essential, that the total remaining home loan is bought out, and an extra bank loan of $50,000 is additional home mortgage loans article. That usually means a somme equity mortgage of $228,000 is granted.

Equity Loan Added benefits

Even so, accessing the added funds to cover higher education feeds, home business investments or cover health-related expenses, is only an individual piece of the profit of family home equity loans. The other pluses relate to credit ranking. Mainly, given that the unique home finance loan is paid out in whole, and in advance of routine, the credit score of the borrower is increased.

What is significantly more, a personal loan authorized primarily based on residence equity is a secured bank loan, which suggests that the curiosity price is lower. This, accompanied with the repaid mortgage loan signifies that a considerably greater offer can be really enjoyed. So, not only is the second mortgage lessen, but the per month repayments are lower far too, probably by as a lot of as $one hundred per thirty day period.

This releases further funds into your pocket, building equity loans on the residential home a audio financing alternative.

Just where the Challenges Lie

But there are even now dangers to a home equity personal loan that have to be thought to be the guide to home mortgages. The most apparent one is that failure to repay can imply losing your house, considering the loan is issued with the house as the stability.

The 2nd chance is a person that can be conveniently averted, relating to the price of the financial loan permitted primarily based on family home equity. If far too a lot of is borrowed then borrowers operate the probability of financial instability.

With regards our illustration, it can be tempting to seek the greatest equity ? all $a hundred,000 ? but this would suggest a better sum than the first, and bigger repayments. In such a instance, equity loans on the house can destablize finances completely, resulting in bankruptcy.

It is also necessary to remember that a host of costs are associated with family home equity loans, from lawyers charges to residence revaluation charges. These have to be factored into the general worth also.

Healthy Home Blog ? Blog Archive ? Home Improvement

My husband is very handy around the house.? He has replaced faucets and even our garbage disposal.?? He?s replaced many doorknobs, the regular kinds, but not any L-handle latches.? Our son-in-law is very handy around their house, too, and has replaced their kitchen counter and sink, built-in appliances, light fixtures, put tile in one of their bathrooms, etc.? It helps to be able to do the labor and just be out the cost of the materials.? That makes home improvement more affordable in this economy.

False killer whales use acoustic squint to target prey

ScienceDaily (Mar. 22, 2012) ? Hunting in the ocean's murky depths, vision is of little use, so toothed whales and dolphins (odontocetes) rely on echolocation to locate tasty morsels with incredible precision. Laura Kloepper from the University of Hawaii, USA, explains that odontocetes produce their distinctive echolocation clicks in nasal structures in the forehead and broadcast them through a fat-filled acoustic lens, called the melon. 'Studies by other people showed odontocetes have the ability to control the shape of the echolocation beam and it has always been assumed that they are using the melon to focus sound' explains Kloepper.

However, no one had ever tested this directly, so Kloepper and her PhD supervisor, Paul Nachtigall, decided to tackle the question. They publish their discovery that false killer whales are able to focus their echolocation beams on targets in The Journal of Experimental Biology.

So, how did the team make this amazing discovery? Fortunately, the duo is based at the Marine Mammal Research Program at the University of Hawaii, which is home to Kina the false killer whale. Kloepper explains that Kina is extremely adept at working with marine biologists after decades of dedicated work by Marlee Breese and her training staff. On this occasion, Kina had been trained to recognise a 37.85-mm-wide cylinder with 6.35-mm-thick walls by echolocation, signalling that she had recognised the cylinder by touching a button in return for a fish reward. However, when Kina encountered other cylinders -- with different wall thicknesses -- she was trained to remain still before receiving her fishy prize. The team then selected two other cylinders to test her echolocation abilities: one with much thicker walls (7.163mm) that Kina could detect with ease and another with only marginally thicker walls (6.553mm) that Kina had more difficulty distinguishing from the 6.35mm cylinder. Then, over a period of weeks, Nachtigall, Breese and Kloepper randomly presented the cylinders to Kina at distances ranging from 2.5 to 7m, while noting her success rate and recording the cross-sectional area of her echolocation clicks with an array of hydrophones located between her and the cylinder.

But there was a problem: the width of an acoustic beam is determined by the frequency of the sound. So how could the team tell whether a change in beam width was due to Kina focusing the sound or simply due to the physics of acoustics? They turned to statistician Megan Donahue. 'Using statistics, we can account for the natural relationship that exists between beam area and frequency', says Kloepper, allowing them to correct for the frequency-related beam width variation. Plotting the adjusted beam area against the distance to the target, Kloepper discovered that Kina's echolocation beam became wider when she was having difficulties distinguishing between the 6.553mm and 6.35mm cylinders and when the cylinders were more distant. The false killer whale was effectively 'squinting' and adjusting the size of her echolocation beam in response to the more difficult tasks.

But was she actually focusing on the objects, because the beam width seemed to be getting wider rather than focusing in? Kloepper realised that the beam only appeared wider at the cluster of hydrophones because the array was close to Kina. When she plotted the path of the acoustic beams as they emerged from the animal's melon and passed through the hydrophone array, it was clear that the beams that appeared widest at the hydrophones were focused furthest away while the narrowest beams must be focused on the nearest objects.

'This is the first time that someone created a basic design to show that there is differential focusing of the beam under different target and echolocation conditions', says Kloepper, who is keen to find out whether other species use Kina's focusing strategy.

Facebook stalking in the name of affirmative action

Ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on affirmative action, I recall how at Roll Call newspaper, I was told that one of our three interns had to be from a racial minority. Diversity is important, but giving someone an advantage beyond his experience degrades the applicant and the hirer.

There I was, Facebook stalking again. But I wasn?t chasing after an old boyfriend or trying to see if my niece was having too good a time in Italy. As the internship coordinator for Roll Call (now CQ Roll Call), a newspaper covering Congress on Capitol Hill, I was looking at the faces of candidates for internships.

One might ask: Why did I care about what a prospective intern would look like? The answer was that I was told that out of three interns hired each semester at Roll Call, one of them had to be from a racial minority: African-American, Hispanic, Asian, South Asian, Native American. And in some cases, what you can?t tell from a name you can see from a picture.

Mike Mills, the paper's editorial director,?denies that Roll Call had a policy to "tip the scales in favor of any candidate solely to fulfill our our diversity goals," but I was given a clear directive otherwise, initiated when I was with Roll Call in 2009 and 2010. It was part of an overall push to improve diversity at the newspaper, which is owned by The Economist Group. The company felt, laudably, that an ethical work environment is one that offers opportunities to those who may not have had them in the past.

I want to be clear that I think the goal is a good one: Most newsrooms these days are anything but diverse, and that lack of diversity affects the kinds of stories covered, the approach to those stories, the photographs, the headlines, everything.

But is there a way to fix this ? at least a better way than using race as a key part of the selection criteria? The US Supreme Court will to take up a version of that question itself when it hears a case that challenges the University of Texas's race-conscious admissions practices later this year. In 2003, the court ruled that public colleges could use race in a vague way as a criterion for college admissions. But now the court has agreed to look at a case involving admissions at the University of Texas. Observers predict that the more conservative bench today is likely to end any kind of race-based preference in higher education.

In my case, what I discovered in my hunt for the right interns was an obstacle that had less to do with racial factors and more to do with economic ones. When I started at Roll Call as features editor in charge of internships, we offered three unpaid internships each semester and in the summer. What that meant was that one of the main qualifications for the job was a set of parents who were able and willing to allow their child to work fulltime for free for several months, with the hope that it might lay the groundwork for future employment.

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Who is Isabel De Los Rios?

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Diet Solution ? Introduction

Efforts at browsing the net for fitness and nutrition plans most of the time, lead you to the Diet Solutions Program. This is a fitness and nutrition plan that helps people achieve their weight loss objectives, putting an emphasis on on the dietary and nutritional components of fat loss. It is my aim with this post, to provide a genuine and unprejudiced (but very brief) review of this fitness and nutrition plan, and try to present a convincing enough (I hope) argument on why I do believe that the Diet Solutions Program is perhaps all you need to help send that belly fat packing!

Sure enough, there is absolutely no program that works the exact same way for everyone, because every one of us possess unique characteristics. The Diet Solutions Program does an fantastic job though at ensuring that fat loss goals are met, due to the fact that it is personalized to suit individual weight loss demands and metabolic processes.

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Diet Solution ? The Advantages

You will be able to eat nearly as almost as much as you do now. Shaun and Isabel de Los Rios(the originators) of the Diet Solutions Program just point you towards what you need to eat and that which you need to not eat, and also the reasons behind this. The dietary program provides you with a customized eating plan, unlike other diet plans that merely toss the program in front of you and let people sought issues out by themselves. By going through the program, you have much more of an opportunity to stay lean over time. There is nothing to keep an eye on or count, no portioning or deprivations. It is really a very simple system and finds its fundamental strength in the ease of use.

On top of that, The Diet Solutions Program has just a few basic principles which are very easy to fully grasp.

Who is Isabel de Los Rios?

Isabel de Los Rios, the creator of the program, is a licensed nutrition expert and coach, so she knows what she?s talking about. A few of her free videos on her site presents you with a taste of what the program has to offer, and also presents you with some guidelines and methods that you most likely had not heard about before now. She stresses all of the myths that you might have learned from other programs, and subsequently presents you with actual details behind weight-loss.

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Diet Solution ? The Downside

Lastly, there is one consistent negative connotation that people tend to relate to this fitness and nutrition plan: the truth that this is an online book rather than an actual, physical study material. Personally, I do not mind e-books whatsoever. At times I even prefer them. In any case, if for some reason you do not like ebooks, you can always simply have it printed.

All I can say is that the Diet Solutions Program is a great book and fitness and nutrition plan. You should download and read a copy for yourself.

Kim Kardashian: Staying Positive, Working Hard, Googling Herself

Kim Kardashian kalled in to Ryan Seacrest's KISS-FM radio show today and addressed two rumors and one feud.

Is she adopting a baby? "No, I don't even know where that came from, but what's so crazy is the magazines can easily call and ask and we would say 'yes' or 'no.' But that's not true."

Is she engaged to Kanye West? "I think I'm still married... I'm really not dating right now at all. I'm focusing on work. I know I always say this, but I'm just trying to get through my situation and have fun."

What about that feud with Jon Hamm? "I just feel like, to be honest, it's all about trying to stay focused and keep everything positive. It really takes a lot more energy and effort to be harsh than to say something nice and be positive."

Overall: "I've heard so many ridiculous things and to be honest," Kin said. "I used to read all the magazines and watch things. I don't even look at any of that anymore. I've taken my Google alerts off my phone!"

Wow, there it is, folks: the first honest thing Kim Kardashian has ever said: she used to have a Google alert for herself.
